In some patients the predisposition to inflammation, tooth decay and oral disease is so high in fact that we have to look for factors outside of the mouth. In some cases, such patients hardly respond to treatment. Measuring the immune parameters can provide information. A saliva sample is taken to the laboratory to determine whether the mucous membrane barrier is immunologically intact and whether antibodies are present in the saliva. A negative result means that the organism is more prone to infections. For further examinations, we will then refer you to your general practitioner or to the immunology department of a larger clinic.
